Tips on Choosing Hot Tub and a Heat Source

Slide background

Tips on choosing your hot tub

Size: Consider the size of your family and how many people you expect to seat comfortably. Seating options range from two people to seven. For a family with small children you will want to consider a three foot high tub. People who are tall will require a 4 foot high tub. Keep in mind that even a tall person can stretch right out in a 6 foot diameter tub. When choosing a height for your wood fired tub consider that a 4 foot high had 25% more water than a 3 foot high, so will take 25% longer to heat up.

Heat Source:
Wood Fired – Hydro is not required for this tub so it may located in your favorite spot as you are not tied to the grid. Be sure to locate the tub a safe distance from buildings or combustibles. For smaller soaking tubs use the Chofu woodburning heater.
Electric – 220 volt with 5.5 kw, 2 speed pump. CSA tested. The electric version is very simple and has the lowest maintenance. Initial heat up time is slow but this is no problem once water is up to temperature. For some areas electrical energy can be more expensive than natural gas.
Natural Gas or Propane – 100,000 BTU, precision control. This is a good alternative for people with limited electricity. Keep in mind that a small amount or electricity is required for the circulating pump even if jets are not used. A gas heater is good for heating up the water quickly.

Jets: Our gas and a electric packages come with 4 jets in three seating stations – one seat has 2 jets aimed at the lower and upper back, the single jets are aimed at the lower and the middle back. The remaining seat is for someone who wants no jet. Tubs are also available with no jets for those who prefer the hot water soak only.

Perimeter Seating Shelves: This accessory is a very good addition to your tub. It allows you to get out of the water when you need to cool down. These heavy-duty shelves also aid in concealing the plumbing.

The life expectancy of Forest Lumber wood fired hot tubs will be over 20 years. There has been a documented case where a dead Western Red Cedar tree was on the ground and resisted day for over 1000 years! The log was still in prime shape and was made into musical instrument components.

Safety Features: Our insulating covers featured on our electric and gas heat models have locking straps. We also offer as an accessory a removable step ladder which can be taken away preventing children from entering the tub when not supervised.
